Holographic safari show "Wild Africa" wanted to create and organise a technological re-creation of the wildlife in Africa. The purpose of the show was to engage with young children and educate them on the culture of African tribes and introduce them to the animal kingdom.
The biggest challenge for Wild Africa was to source the brightest and most reliable projectors to best re-create the vibrant life in Africa.
Wild Africa selected Optoma as the most reliable and helpful brand to fulfil the expectations of this project. Optoma projectors were selected to best enhance different experiences in different zones.
The biggest room that needed kitting out with Optoma’s projection solutions was 120 square metres. This room was to be one of the most spectacular rooms with visitors being able to visit the top of a waterfall, pet a lion, create their butterfly, frog and even a turtle. For this challenging task, 18 GT1080e projectors were selected as the best solution for this vibrant room. The biggest priority was ensuring there was no shadowing effect when the children were to engage with the technology – so a short-throw projector was required. The projectors in this particular instance were installed vertically, producing bright and bold images from the appropriate distance needed.
Boasting a short throw lens, high brightness and Full HD imagery, the GT1080e is a convenient and easy to set projector which fit this particular room perfectly. Featuring Amazing colour technology, the GT1080e delivers accurate true-to-life colour reproduction for an ultimately sensational Wild African experience.
The heart of the exhibition required a hologram to wow audiences within the 400 square metre space. Six Optoma ZH406ST projectors were used to illuminate the main panoramic screen. The ZH406ST is a compact, Full HD 1080p DuraCore laser projector with a short-throw lens. In addition to this, an Optoma ZU1050 laser projector with an Optoma A16 ultra-short throw interchangeable lens was used for projection on the central translucent screen. This projector was selected due to the ability to balance the brightness of the central translucent screen and the main panoramic screen. Both models are designed for maintenance-free, continuous operation. These projectors successfully and powerfully re-create the heart and soul of Africa in a truly breath-taking way.
6 Optoma GT1070Xe projectors were incorporated in other African themed rooms. The GT1070Xe projector delivers accurate true-to-life colour reproduction combining an integrated speaker for powerful sound. The additional African themed rooms are bursting with colour and sound providing incredible sensory experiences for all visitors.
The final project was a huge success. The Optoma projection solutions re-created wild Africa in the most true-to-life way possible. As well as this, a team of 57 people, including screenwriters, artists, programmers, cameramen, psychologists, costumers, actors, scientists and technical specialists made the final experience one to remember.
Stepan Kosyachenko, technical Director of the Holographic safari show stated: “Optoma’s technology is second to none. The simplicity and ease of use of the products undoubtedly made this project as successful as it is. The ability to adjust the focus and keystone on different axes is certainly a useful feature that has made the final project look perfect.”
